Class Descriptions:

Youth Sailing Clinic: cost $5.  An introduction to sailing, sailboats, knots, and nomenclature. Open to all Children 7-15 (max weight 130lb).  1-4PM at the Village Club Pool in Oriental.  Each Participant needs to bring: bathing suit, towel, and a USCG approved life jacket (one will be supplied if needed).  You may get information and register for a summer program on site.  RSVP by May 8th or call with questions at 252-474-6000.

Beginner/Intermediate: cost $200.  An in-depth introduction to all things sailing:  Sailboats and nomenclature, capsize recovery and self-rescue, rigging and derigging, points of sail, tacking, jibing,  getting out of irons, sailing up-wind, safely sailing-by-the-lee, weather, wind, and current awareness, Knots: (including, but knot limitied to) figure eight, bowline, clove hitch, and cleat hitch, on the water safety, right-of-way, communication, team-building, and more.  With our low instructor to student ratio (1:5) we are able to teach to the individual and take sailing as far as the student is willing.    

Intermediate/Advanced:  cost $200.  Qualifying students will take a closer look at the dynamics of sailing.  Young sailors will refine their current skills and learn basic elements of advanced sailing and racing; Sail Trim: appropriate sheeting for beating, reaching, and running, efficient hand exchange for tacking and jibing, balancing weight, racing tactics, precise and calculated handling/steering in advanced settings (ie- higher winds, or overtaking in a race), man overboard recovery drills, navigation rules, racing rules, docking and mooring.
