  BASIC SMALL BOAT SAILING ASA Course BSB #110 |
Prerequisite: None General Description: Sailors must sail a centerboard or multihull sailboat in light to moderate winds and sea conditions in familiar waters without supervision. A preparatory standard with no auxillary power or navigation skills required. This is a daysailing standard on a monohull or multihull less than 20 feet in length and without a fixed or weighted keel. Students will be taught the basic nomenclature, points of sail, "Rules of the Road", safety, man over board procedures, capsize and recovery procedures, and commands associated with a small boat. |

 BASIC KEEL BOAT ASA COURSE BKB #101 |
Prerequisite: None General Description: Sailors must sail a keelboat of about 20 feet in length in light to moderate winds and sea conditions in familiar waters without supervision. A preparatory standard with no auxiliary power or navigation skills required. Successful candidates earn a National Safe Boating Certificate approved by NASBLA and the U.S. Coast Guard Students will be taught the basic nomenclature, points of sail, "Rules of the Road", safety, man over board procedures, and commands associated with a small keelboat. |

 BASIC COASTAL CRUISING ASA COURSE BCC #103 |
Prerequisite: Basic Keelboat Sailing Certification General Description: Able to cruise safely in local and regional waters as both skipper and crew on an auxillary sailboat of about 20 to 30 feet in length, in light to moderate winds and sea conditions. When this class is completed, a student will be able to prepare a boat, leave the dock, sail, anchor, leave anchor, return to dock and "tuck in" a small keelboat. Students will be taught the intermediate nomenclature, points of sail, "Rules of the Road", safety, man over board procedures, and commands associated with a small keelboat. They will also be able to reef, heave to, understand basic weather signs, and basic navigation. |

BAREBOAT CHARTERING ASA COURSE BBC #104 |
Prerequisite: Basic Keelboat Sailing and Basic Coastal Cruising Certifications General Description: An advanced cruising standard for individuals with cruising experience. The individual can act as skipper or crew of a 30-50 foot boat sailing by day in coastal waters. The standard includes knowledge of boat systems and maintenance procedures. When this class is completed, a student will be able to prepare for departure, leave the dock, sail, anchor, leave anchor, return to dock and "tuck in" a midsized keelboat. They will be able to plan for living afloat during a charter as well as use basic navigational skills to travel from location to location. They will also have an understanding of the systems on a coastal cruiser and how to use and perform basic maintenance on them. Students are required to act as skipper and crew on a cruise of at least 48 hours during the course. |

Prerequisite: Basic Keelboat Sailing, Basic Coastal Cruising and Bareboat Chartering Certifications General Description: An advanced cruising standard for individuals with cruising experience. The individual can act as skipper or crew of a 30-50 foot multihull sailboat by day in coastal waters. The standard includes those skills unique to a 30-50 foot multihull. When this class is completed, a student will be able to handle a 30-50 foot multihull sailboat understanding the differences between a monohull and a multihull. They will be able to plan for living afloat during a charter as well as using basic navigational skills to travel from location to location. They will also have an understanding of the systems on a multihull sailboat and how to use and perform basic maintenance on them. |

  COASTAL NAVIGATION ASA COURSE CON #105 |
Prerequisite: None General Description:Able to demonstrate the navigational theory required to safely sail a sailing vessel in coastal or inland waters. There is no sailing part to this standard and practical application of this sailing knowledge is found in the Advanced Coastal Cruising Standard. When this class is completed, a student will be able to explain chart symbols, identify publications that have navigational information, take bearings and convert them between true, magnetic and compass, allow for set and drift, and plot a course taking into account outside forces, determining the course to steer. |

 ADVANCED COASTAL CRUISING ASA COURSE ACC #106 |
Prerequisite: Basic Keelboat Sailing, Basic Coastal Cruising, Bareboat Chartering and Coastal Navigation Certifications. General Description: An advanced cruising standard for individuals with cruising experience. The individual can act as skipper or crew of a 30-50 foot boat sailing by day and night in coastal and inland waters in any conditions. When this class is completed, a student will be able to plan and carry out a trip with advanced understandings of weather, safety, anchoring, maintenance, and other aspects of boating. They will also have completed Coastal Navigation. Students are required to act as skipper and crew on a live-aboard cruise of at least 30 hours during the course. Different night sailing skills are also taught. |

  CELESTIAL NAVIGATION ASA COURSE CEL #107 |
Prerequisite: None General Description:An advanced navigation standard for individuals who plan on making passages. The individual must demonstrate the celestial navigational theory required to safely navigate a sailboat on an offshore passage. The practical application is conducted in the Offshore Passage Making Standard. When this class is complete, a student will be able to calculate time conversions, determine azimuths and altitudes of navigational stars and planets, and plot results taken from the sextant after converting all data. |

 OFFSHORE PASSAGE MAKING ASA COURSE OSP #108 |
Prerequisite: Basic Keelboat Sailing, Basic Coastal Cruising, Bareboat Chartering, Coastal Navigation, Advanced Coastal Cruising and Celestial Navigation Certifications General Description: An advanced passage making standard. The individual must demonstrate the ability to act as skipper and crew of a sailing vessel on offshore passages in any weather. The celestial navigations standard is performed at this level. When this class is complete the individual will be able to plan and plot a passage on the appropriate charts, prepare the vessel, crew, and equipment for a passage, understand advanced emergency procedures and participate in all aspects of a passage. | ||
